Nutella: from Alba's gianduja paste to the world's best-known spread

It all started in Piedmont, Italy, with Pietro Ferrero. In 1946, he created Giandujot, a hazelnut and cocoa paste sold in slices, much cheaper than chocolate, to eat on bread. The product became Supercrema in 1951. In 1963, his son Michele Ferrero decided to sell it across Europe under a new name: Nutella. The first jar came out of the Ferrero factory in Alba on April 20, 1964. My American Market brings you Nutella in its American version!

Nutella today

More than 60 years after the first jar, Nutella is sold in around 170 countries. The recipe stays true to its Piedmont roots: hazelnut and cocoa, in a creamy spread.

Nutella Peanut, the flavor made for Americans

In the United States, Ferrero launched Nutella Peanut, the brand's first new flavor in over 60 years. It combines Nutella's creaminess with the taste of roasted peanuts, for a country that loves peanut butter.

The My American Market tip

On pancakes, waffles or a slice of sandwich bread, or instead of peanut butter in a PB&J sandwich with grape jelly.
