Did you know Red Hots were originally called "Cinnamon Imperials"?

In 1932, the Ferrara Pan Candy Company — the same one that created Lemonheads — invented a hard little spicy-cinnamon candy using the "cold panning" method: the sugar is rolled in giant drums with successive layers of cinnamon flavor and bright red coloring. The name "Cinnamon Imperials" didn't really stick... so the brand went with "Red Hots" — for both the color and the heat. Much more telling!

Red Hots are part of the big Ferrara (Ferrero) family — the same as Lemonheads, Nerds, Runts and Butterfinger. But in the world of spicy cinnamon candy, Red Hots hold a special place. It's the candy of Valentine's Day (red and intense!), of gingerbread houses at Christmas (they're used for decorating!) and of thrill-seekers all year round.
