In 1919, Prohibition banned the sale of alcohol in the United States. The Independent Breweries Company of St. Louis, Missouri, looked for an alternative — and launched "Belfast Root Beer." Perfect timing: Americans without their usual brews were looking for a flavorful substitute. IBC quickly established itself as a quality root beer. In 1986, PepsiCo bought the brand, then it moved to Keurig Dr Pepper. IBC is today in the same big family as Dr Pepper and Barq's!
