Did you know the M in M&M's comes from two rivals?

M&M's was created in 1941 by Forrest Mars Sr. (the M of Mars) — but also by Bruce Murrie, the son of Hershey's president, Mars's direct rival! The two Ms stand for Mars and Murrie. Two competitors who collaborated to create one of the best-selling candies in the world. Murrie ended up selling his shares to Mars in 1949 — perhaps the most regretted sale in confectionery history!

During World War II, M&M's was included in American soldiers' rations — the candy shell protected the chocolate from the heat. In 1981, M&M's became the first candy in space — aboard the Columbia shuttle! And in 1984, M&M's was named the official snack of the Los Angeles Olympic Games. A truly historic brand!
