The story of a horse, a farm and two chocolate bars with the same name

Frank Mars owned a 2,800-acre farm in Tennessee — and he called it "Milky Way Farm." On that farm lived his favourite horse, also named Snickers. In 1930, when he launched his second bar — nougat, caramel, peanuts, chocolate — the horse had just died. He named the bar Snickers in tribute. Meanwhile, the original Milky Way (1923) kept conquering America. In the 1960s, Mars launched Milky Way in Europe — but in a simplified no-caramel version. The American caramel version was distributed in Europe as the Mars Bar. Result: two different products under the same name across continents for 60 years!
