Originally, Peeps were made by hand — one by one — with a piping bag. Each little chick took 27 hours of work! In 1954, Just Born mechanized production and cut the time to... 6 minutes. A revolution that made it possible to produce billions of Peeps every year. Today, 2 billion Peeps are made every year at the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania plant!

Just Born — the brand behind Peeps — is also the same family as Mike and Ike and Hot Tamales. The founder, Sam Born, displayed his freshly made candies in the window with the sign "Just Born" — hence the company name. And the Peeps? Their name comes from the chicks — "baby chicks" make the "peep" sound. So cute!
