Goya: the strawberry soda from the group founded in 1936 with a name bought for $1 from a Moroccan sardine importer!
In 1936 in Manhattan, Prudencio Unanue, a Spanish immigrant who had passed through Puerto Rico, lost his job when the Spanish Civil War cut his supply lines. He found a stock of Moroccan sardines and repackaged them with his wife Carolina. For his brand name, he met an importer who had already registered the name "Goya" — in homage to Spanish painter Francisco Goya — and no longer used it. He bought it for $1. Goya was born. Today Goya Foods means $1.5 billion in revenue, 2,600 products, and the largest Hispanic food group in the USA — still owned by the Unanue family, now in its third generation. My American Market brings you its Strawberry Soda!
MoreGoya Strawberry Soda at MYAM
The Goya Strawberry Soda — the American strawberry soda! Sweet strawberry, lightly tangy, well sparkling. The American strawberry flavour profile is different from European strawberry sodas — more intense, more jam-like, with that characteristic sweetness of American Latin sodas. Refreshing alone on ice or as a base for non-alcoholic cocktails with lime and mint.
Goya Strawberry Soda tip
Goya Strawberry Soda makes a perfect base for an express agua fresca — mix with a squeeze of lime juice and a few fresh mint leaves. Serve in a tall glass with plenty of ice. The summer drink of Miami and New York streets. So good!
