My American Market was born in Anne-Claire’s heart and mind in the Fall of 2008. The adventure all started because of a ranch dressing craving (never underestimate the power of your cravings!). Back in France after a few years in the USA, Anne-Claire shortly realized she was missing American tastes and cuisine. American food products represented a piece of her American life, a place she used to call “home”.
Living in the south of France, she soon realized that finding American food products was quite a mission. She went through the trial-and-error process of trying different supplying sources:
- Getting food sent to her from the States
- Waiting for an American friend’s visit
- Buying in stores while in Paris
- Finding substitutes
- Etc.
All solutions were complicated and long processes and none of which was quite completely fulfilling her needs. She also found out she wasn’t the only one with unsatisfied cravings. Therefore she came up with the idea of a 1-stop online store that could fully satisfy the American community and friends’ wishes.
Yet, her ambition was a business that would be more than a regular “Epicerie Américaine”. She wanted to create a community-oriented platform where visitors could become contributors and each of them could take action in shaping the service and its features.
